The United Nations (UN) International Day for the
Preservation of the Ozone Layer is celebrated on September 16 every
year. This event commemorates the date of the signing of the Montreal
Protocol on Substances that deplete the Ozone Layer in 1987. World Ozone
Day has been celebrated since 1994 and was established by the United
Nations General Assembly.
The focal theme for Ozone Day 2016 is “Ozone and Climate: restored by a World United”. The day is mainly intended to spread awareness of the depletion of the ozone layer and search for solutions to preserve it.
Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment (KSCSTE)
invites proposals for the observance of Ozone Day from Research
Organisations, Govt./Aided Colleges, Polytechnics, R&D Centres of
the Council, Govt./Aided Schools, Universities and Departments and NGC
District Co-ordinators. The proposals should be submitted to The Joint
Director &Head, Coastal & Environment Division, Kerala State
Council for Science, Technology and Environment, Sasthra Bhavan, Pattom,
Trivandrum-695004 in the prescribed format on or before 20.08.2016.
